USB Adapters

If you use a serial dive computer cable, you will need an adapter to connect this to your Mac. The Suunto (and aftermarket) data cables have electronics inside the connector. This circuit is powered from the serial port. Many USB adapters do not supply enough power on their serial ports for this circuitry in the data cable to work. People have had the best luck with Keyspan adapters, though a few (but not all) Prolific PL-2303 based adapters have also been demonstrated to work. Whatever you use, plug it directly into the computer or a powered hub, not into the keyboard or a bus-powered hub.

Dolphin XH 6451 - does not work
ednet Serial to USB Adapter - works (use Prolific PL-2303 driver)
Keyspan PDA Adapter - works
Keyspan High Speed Adapter - works
Prolific PL-2303 based adapters - there are several cheap (often with no brand name) adapters which use this controller chip. Some of these work and some do not. These may work if you load the device driver from the Prolific website.
